Rebecca Hagos, also known as “Rebs” feels extremely blessed to be one of this year’s recipients of the Leacross Foundation Scholarship. Rebs is a 17 year old Ethiopian Canadian from Windsor, Ontario. She has a passion for promoting social justice and diversity which has led her to found and lead three student clubs, the Diversity Week Planning Committee, the Social Justice Club and the African Diaspora club. She participates in a wide array of extracurricular activities including student council, blood drive committee, faith club and dragon boat team. Outside of school Rebs serves as a Youth Program Assistant and Youth Ambassador for the AIDs Committee of Windsor, in which she advocates for sexual health amongst the African, Caribbean and Black Community. Her hobbies include spoken word poetry, photography and volunteering. Through this expedition she hopes to learn more about the changing circumpolar worlds affect on the Indigenous peoples.
