Thank you for your
interest in participating in the new Teachers
on Ice Scholarship Program with the Students on Ice Foundation.
The goal of the Teachers on Ice Scholarship Program is to
recognize science educators in Canada who: (a) share the Students on Ice
mission of inspiring, engaging and educating youth; (b) demonstrate a holistic
approach to teaching and learning in their current science classroom(s); and
(c) empower students to be active and positive agents of change in their home communities
and beyond. Selected teachers will be provided a professional development
opportunity that offers a new level of scientific awareness through an interdisciplinary,
cross-cultural and experiential context situated in the Canadian and
Greenlandic North. In turn, such an opportunity impacts not only participating teachers’
professional growth, but also that of their current and future students, colleagues
and the broader personal and professional communities in which they are part.
This opportunity
covers the expedition fee of $12,900 CAD. The expedition fee includes all
general expenses (accommodations, travel, meals, and programming) during the
expedition starting from your arrival in Ottawa.
Scholarship
recipients will be responsible for travel arrangements and costs to and
from the gateway city of Ottawa. Scholarship recipients
are also responsible for personal travel insurance and medical insurance (which
is mandatory for participation).
Teachers on Ice scholarship
recipients will engage in all programming aspects of the expedition and will serve
as expedition staff members with assigned student support responsibilities,
along with other optional program responsibilities. Once accepted, all of these
additional options will be shared as part of registration.
Applications must be received by April 24th, 2018 by 11:59pm EST.
Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted. Note that you
can save your application and return to it any time prior to the deadline.
All applicants will
be notified in May of the selection panel’s decision. A formal announcement of
the 2018 Teachers on Ice scholarship recipients will be released on the
Students on Ice Foundation website in June 2018.
