I have been certified as a clinical psychotherapist by the Ontario Association for Counsellors, Consultants, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists since 1996. In addition, I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and a certified Clinical Traumatologist with publications and presentations on various aspects of psychotraumatology, including betrayal trauma and moral injury. In 2012, I was awarded the Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of my work with Canadian veterans with PTSD.
In 2008, I worked at Mamasarvik Healing Centre with trauma clients from the north. I also taught trauma-related courses to the Mamasarvik staff. Since 2009, I have been a trauma therapist at Nunavut Sivuniksavut, a post-secondary school for Inuit students coming from the north for the Algonquin College accredited program in Inuit Studies. I am now teaching a course entitled: The Role of Trauma in Inuit History to the students at NS. I truly treasure this time with Inuit students.
