Dr. Eric Mattson is a professor of Physical Geography at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario. His specialization, spanning over 35 years, is in the field of snow and ice hydrology. More specifically, he is a glaciologist studying alpine glaciers in mountain ranges through out the world. Eric’s main research interest is focused on glacier’s and their health which means that he tries to determine past, present and future trends in glacier extent in response to climate change. When not teaching or conducting research, Eric enjoys exploring mountain environments as well as other regions containing spectacular landscapes. The 2019 Arctic Expedition will mark his fifteenth year with Students on Ice and he is looking forward to sharing his passion of the cryosphere with everyone on the expedition.
