SOI Holds 4Rs Youth Reconciliation Event in Iqaluit

This weekend Students on Ice is excited to be collaborating with 4Rs National Youth Reconciliation Movement to facilitate a youth-led discussion on reconciliation in Iqaluit. The participants in this gathering include Students on Ice alumni as well as community elders, alumni of Northern Youth Abroad and Nunavut Sivuniksavut, and local Inukshuk High School students.

The gathering is structured to invite youth participants to contribute their own personal reflections on reconciliation, and these reflections will move the discussions forward in a way that is relevant to this community of Iqaluit youth. We will also have the opportunity to learn more about the history of Inuit as well as the findings of the Qikiqtani Truth Commission: Achieving Saimaqatiqiingniq. Participants will be able to use their perspectives, the network of youth and community elders, and support from Students on Ice to move forward with actions that foster reconciliation.

Students on Ice is grateful for the support of 4Rs in making the gathering possible and providing the framework and teachings underpinning the facilitation model. While in Iqaluit we are being generously hosted by the Nunavut Research Institute. We also wish to thank Iqaluit mayor Madeleine Redfern for sharing her time and expertise with the Qikiqtani Truth Commission.
