SOI at the Kitikmeot Trade Show

Students on Ice recently travelled to Cambridge Bay for the 19th annual Kitikmeot Trade Show which took place from February 12 -14, 2018.

This annual event brings together businesses, government departments, regulatory agencies and Inuit organizations from the Kitikmeot region and other communities across Canada. The focus of the trade show is the exchange of information between professionals from business, industry and government sectors, as well as regulatory agencies and Inuit organizations. The event is highlighted by presentations, trade show exhibitors and social gatherings designed to create and support networking, and to provide opportunities to expand inter-region trade and economic activity.

SOI reps at the Kitikmeot Trade Show are Arctic Youth & Partnerships Manager Caitlyn Baikie, and Manager of Funding and Program Development Heather Dewar.

We are also excited to be joined at the Trade Show by Shannon Kayaitok and SOI alumni Pauli Illuitok. SOI sponsored their participation in the Kitikmeot Trade Show Youth program where Shannon and Pauli are supporting the younger participants as mentors of the program.

Great to see alumni Carter Lear (Arctic 2017) and Dennis Kavanna (Arctic 2014) visiting the SOI booth!(left) Two volunteers with the Kitikmeot Chamber of Commerce stopped by to get some details about Arctic 2018.(right)

Highlights from this year’s trade show were meeting the community members of Cambridge Bay, reuniting with many SOI and Canada C3 alumni, and participating in the conference sessions. We also presented to the youth delegation about Financial Literacy and shared information about the 2018 SOI Arctic Expedition.

Thank you to POLAR Knowledge Canada for providing accommodation for Caitlyn, Heather, Pauli and Shannon at their short term housing units.
