An Epic Journey to Celebrate Canada and Connect Canadians

Canada C3 is a signature project for Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation in 2017. The centrepiece is an epic 150-day sailing journey from Toronto to Victoria via the Northwest Passage. Canada C3 will connect Canadians from coast to coast to coast and inspire a deeper understanding of our land, our peoples, and the past, present, and future of our country.

The Journey

150 Days

Canada C3 will engage millions of Canadians from across the country. It will be a transformative journey that will capture our hearts and imaginations and help inspire a deeper understanding, appreciation and future vision for Canada.

In collaboration with our Canada C3 ambassadors, partners, and the many communities we visit, Canada C3 will explore the four key themes of Canada 150 that represent both challenges and opportunities for Canada: Diversity and Inclusion, Reconciliation, Youth Engagement, and the Environment.

"Canada C3 will be a catalytic, celebratory, and transformational journey for all Canadians. A journey that will spark and captivate our imagination and lead to a greater awareness and deeper understanding of our country, its vastness, beauty, and the enormity of opportunities ahead of us. Canada C3 will instill in us a lasting sense of pride and inspire the next generation of Canadians to make their contributions to Canada and the World."

Geoff Green,
C.M.Founder of the Students on Ice Foundation and Expedition Leader for Canada C3

Remarkable Canadians On Board

The 150-day expedition is divided into 15 legs that will each have a cross-section of Canadian society on board, including scientists, artists, Indigenous elders, historians, business leaders, youth, newcomers, journalists, celebrities, and teachers to tell their stories, share their experiences, conduct research, create art and music, and together celebrate Canada.

Education Program

The Canada C3 Education Program includes the creation of the Canada C3 Digital Classroom, providing curriculum-linked learning modules for Kindergarten to Grade 12 students. Developed by teachers and partnering education NGOs, these learning modules are built around the four Canada C3 themes: Diversity and Inclusion, Reconciliation, Youth Engagement, and the Environment.

The Canada C3 Digital Classroom will also feature an interactive map of the journey including stories of the diverse people, places, communities, and conversations. Students and teachers across the country will also have opportunities to engage in hands-on learning with the Canada C3 giant floor map school kits, as well as connecting directly with one of the 30 Canada C3 Youth Ambassadors through in-person and live streaming education and outreach events, before, during, and after the expedition.

Inviting all Canadian Teachers to contribute to the Canada C3 Digital Classroom: download the Poster, Guidelines, and Template and send your contributions to education@canadac3.ca by March 31, 2017.

Stay tuned for the launch of the Canada C3 Digital Classroom in early 2017!

"Canada C3 will provide a unique opportunity to experience Canada: the diversity of our peoples and the stunning beauty of our geography all along our vast coastline. Canada C3 will provoke us to reflect on who we are and what we represent in today’s world, and to envision the Canada we want to be in the 21st century. I am honoured to be part of this ambitious initiative."
