UPDATE - (Posted Sunday 8:15 pm EST) Geoff Sunday June 27, 2004 We're back! We arrived to Ottawa last night just after midnight. It was a great return journey with lots of laughs, songs and stories. We really have become a tight knit group. I think the rest of the passengers on the plane thought we were all a bit crazy, but it was a lot of fun, and the FIRST AIR flight attendants were super friendly and joined in our celebration.
In Iqaluit we said goodbye to Lily and Jenny. Belinda went home to Igloolik on Friday so our group was slowly dwindling. It was weird to see darkness for the first time in 8 days as we flew south. Upon arrival to Ottawa, we were met by a nice welcoming party and after collecting our bags we said goodbye to Rachell and our beloved TVO film crew…
The rest of us piled into the mini vans and drove back to the Gatineau Hills for the night. I think we got to bed around 2:30am, or at least some of us did!
The wake-up call this morning came early as we started saying goodbye and taking students and staff to the trains and planes. Several parents also drove to Ottawa. It was a morning of goodbyes but we all know that this is just a beginning and we'll be keeping in touch and seeing each other again.
And so the journey ends… It has been a powerful adventure and transformative learning experience for everyone involved. In the next 24 hours we'll be updating the website with some photos and videos, as well as a few more student journals.
So join us here again soon, and also watch our main SOI website, for ongoing news and information about the supporters, participants and places of this, past and future journeys. Thanks, everyone!
