Suryaa is a 2016 Arctic Expedition alum. He goes to the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UICU) where he studies Cognitive Science + Informatics, but he was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Some new unique interests are Big History, the 4th Industrial Revolution, and the MIT Media Lab. This past spring, Suryaa worked for the Siebel Center for Design, a hub for all things digital fabrication/thinking, at UIUC. He focused on collecting information through researching student needs, creating an innovative framework for design, and streamlining methods for communication + programs. In the Alumni Council, his goal is to build off of that experience, work on New Media project, and help create a tool based on interests or geographical spaces to source opportunities for alumni to learn and take action. His vision is to understand complex adaptive systems like Earth’s Climate and then use skills as a design technologist, entrepreneur, and climate activist to hopefully solve them.
