Arctic Futures 2050

September 2019

Held in Washington D.C. in September 2019, Arctic Futures 2050 is a conference that brings together scientists, Indigenous peoples, and decision makers to explore the knowledge needed to inform decisions concerning the future of the Arctic. SOI will lead a delegation of 7 youth alumni from across the Canadian Arctic and around the world to learn, share and connect around the future of the Arctic.  Delegation goals for alumni:

  1. Harness the conference as an opportunity for personal and professional development;
  2. Meaningfully engage in recommendation and decision making for the future of the Arctic alongside with scientists, Indigenous communities, youth, decision makers, etc;
  3. Gain exposure to an influential Arctic stakeholder that SOI has not worked with before;
  4. Meet a larger professional network and develop relationships with mentors;
  5. Participate in the opportunity to connect, reconnect and build bridges face-to-face with the SOI alumni community.
This delegation is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Embassy of the United States of America, the Leacross Foundation, and First Air.
