The Torngat Wildlife, Plants, and Fisheries Secretariat, on behalf of the Torngat Wildlife and Plants Co-management Board, and the Torngat Joint Fisheries Board are a proud sponsor of the Students on Ice program.
Our vision includes healthy ecosystems and communities with shared stewardship of wildlife, plants, and fisheries. To achieve such a vision we proudly promote #paigitsiaguk, which means to “take care of it”.
Sustainable utilization of renewable resources is an important principle for today’s Nunatsiavummiut youth to ensure their cultural continuity, health, and wellness. It is our belief that Students on Ice provides a brain forming experience that will lead to immediate and enduring environmental leadership in Inuit Nunangat.
We encourage all followers of #SOIArctic2016 to engage us on Twitter @TWPFS, find us on Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and at www.torngatsecretariat.ca.
“It is our goal to help inspire Nunatsiavut voices of stewardship. Voices that command respect, and are closely connected with nature, culture, Inuit knowledge, and local decisions.”
