Sultan Mizan Antarctic Research Foundation Sultan Mizan Antarctic Research Foundation

Sultan Mizan Antarctic Research Foundation (SMARF) was established by the Government of Malaysia in 2012 to support our nation’s interests in the icy continents and to support efforts towards sustaining Malaysia’s presence in these regions. The objectives of SMARF include the development of Malaysian scientific capacity, specifically young scientists and to disseminate Polar scientific information to the community especially the younger generation.

“We are pleased to have partnered with the Students on Ice Foundation as one of our international partners, and for the great opportunity for us to send young Malaysians to participate in Students on Ice (SOI) – life changing educational expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica.”

Arctic and Antarctica provide vast opportunities for young expeditioners to explore and learn about global environmental issues, including climate change, diplomacy, education and culture through first-hand experience. We are confident that through the experienced SOI team and its comprehensive educational programmes, the 15th anniversary Arctic Expedition will change the perspective of participants towards the importance of Arctic and global sustainability.
