Growing up in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Jordan enjoyed exploring the Rocky Mountains from a young age on foot, canoe, kayak, and on skis. He spent the last six years speed skating at the Calgary Olympic Oval, training and representing Alberta in competitions across Canada and the United States.
Jordan attended the University of Calgary, majoring in Biological Sciences. During his undergraduate studies, he developed an interest in the overlap between human health, animal health, and environmental health. With this focus, Jordan is also currently involved in ocean literacy service projects, increasing awareness and engaging youth in water and ocean conservation.
In 2017 Jordan had the opportunity to join Students on Ice as a youth ambassador for the Canada C3 expedition, joining leg 10 in the Northwest Passage. This voyage fueled fed into Jordan’s interests in environmental health.
Jordan was inspired by the vibrant communities and welcoming people he visited while in the Arctic with SOI last summer. As a student intern with SOI, Jordan is happy to be involved in creating opportunities for youth to experience the Canadian North first hand.
Jordan is starting a Master’s program in public health this fall. He plans to use his passion for nature to study the connections between human health and ecosystems. Jordan’s experience in SOI has fostered his long term goal of pursuing a career in Northern and remote medicine.
In the mean time, Jordan is enjoying outdoor pursuits and cultural attractions while spending the summer in Ottawa.
