Funding and Program Development

Heather Dewar

Heather joined the SOI team in May 2017. Trained as an ecologist Heather has worked for various departments in the Federal Government on issues including climate change, species at risk conservation, and science communication. She had the good fortune to be part of the team tasked with designing the Canadian High Arctic Research Station that is being built in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. While working on this project Heather developed a deep respect for the North and a passion for working with youth.

Heather lives in Ottawa and has two wonderful sons, aged 23 and 20. An avid cyclist, Heather also enjoys hiking, kayaking, camping and playing soccer and ball hockey.  As a committed environmentalist she tries to “step lightly” on the earth. Heather dedicates much of her volunteer time towards alleviating homelessness and is active locally on a number of initiatives.
