Emma’s involvement with Students on Ice began with her participation on the 2012 Arctic Expedition. This experience guided her into an undergraduate degree in Marine Biology at Dalhousie University, where she engaged with ocean-related sustainability initiatives at local, regional and international levels. In 2016, Emma was the Canadian representative for the Our Ocean Youth Ambassador program, which encouraged youth to work cooperatively with their global counterparts to tackle marine pollution, ecosystem shifts and policy challenges. Emma hopes to gear her future education towards marine management and ultimately strives to work at the intersection of science, conservation and industry.
Working with Students on Ice offers an exciting opportunity for Emma to contribute to ocean literacy discussions and conservation efforts through educating and inspiring youth participants. As Expedition Coordinator, Emma oversees the logistics and day-to-day operational support of SOI programming. One of the most rewarding parts of her job is to work directly with students and staff to prepare them for their own expedition journey.
At the end of the work day, Emma is most likely found experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen or exploring the many museums and events of the National Capital Region.
