Communications Intern

Ben Compton

Ben is excited to be in the office this summer working on communications for Students on Ice. While he hasn’t participated in an expedition before, he has a deep appreciation for SOI’s focus on experiential learning and cultural exchange. As a graduate of Concordia University’s BFA program in Intermedia (video, sound, and performance), Ben entered into the world of communications through his love of the arts. Previously working for the Canada Council for the Arts and the Quebec English – Language Arts Network, he finds inspiration in projects that merge disciplines and build community.

His passion for the arts has lead him to pursue a range of creative activities, from working as a cultural interpreter at the Venice Biennale of Visual Arts in 2017, to studying West African drum and dance in Dagbamete, Ghana in 2011. In September 2018, Ben will move to Vancouver to pursue a Master’s of Fine Arts at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Outside of work and school, Ben enjoys playing music, biking, and exploring.
